for those who go deeper
Specialist Mathematics
The most demanding maths subject in the VCE — and the one that rewards genuine depth and precision most generously.
Taught by a Melbourne High graduate with 41 raw in Specialist and a 99.75 ATAR.
Your pathway through Specialist
Specialist punishes shallow preparation: the questions chain concepts together, and the exams leave nowhere to hide. Our program pairs naturally with Methods and builds real depth without time pressure — interactive booklets for every topic, worked solutions to every question, and personalised exams that target exactly where your marks are leaking.
Specialist Headstart ¾
Specialist is the most demanding subject in the VCE, and the students who cope with it best are the ones who met the hardest material before the year that counts. Starting Units 3 & 4 early means you work through complex numbers, vectors and mechanics without a SAC deadline forcing you through them — building genuine depth and confidence first, so Year 12 becomes consolidation and exam craft rather than survival.
Specialist ¾
Specialist punishes shallow preparation more than any other subject: the questions chain several ideas together and the exams leave nowhere to hide. We cover the full course rigorously, pair it naturally with your Methods work, and target exactly where marks leak with personalised exams and worked solutions to everything. SAC support is prioritised, and the proof-and-precision skills that separate a 40 from a 45 are drilled deliberately, not left to chance.

The vectors question 96% of the state scored zero on
Question 4e of the 2019 Specialist Exam 2, recreated from the paper with the statewide marks from the official examination report. Two marks, average score 0.1 — because on paper nobody could see the pyramid. So look at it properly: drag it, orbit it, and watch the working become geometry.

Section B · Question 4
Question 4e.
2 marks
The base of a pyramid is the parallelogram ABCD with vertices at points A(2, −1, 3), B(4, −2, 1), C(a, b, c) and D(4, 3, −1). The apex (top) of the pyramid is located at P(4, −4, 9).
d. [shown that] 6i + 2j + 5k is perpendicular to both AB and AD, and hence a unit vector perpendicular to the base of the pyramid is 1√65 (6i + 2j + 5k).
e. Find the volume of the pyramid.

“Very few students approached this problem correctly. The majority of those who attempted it made unfounded assumptions about the height or the layout of the pyramid. Of those who used a scalar resolute to find the height of the pyramid, most incorrectly used OP rather than a slant edge of the pyramid such as AP.”

The 2019 pyramid: 96% scored zero
A parallelogram base floating in 3D, an apex off to one side, and two marks for the volume. On paper it's a wall of coordinates — in 3D it's almost obvious.
Drag the scene to orbit it — it only moves when you move it. The flat side-on sketch underneath never turns, so you always keep your bearings. Then click through the exact working.
